Hair porosity
Hair porosity is simply how your hair takes in moisture. When you apply oil to your hair or spritz water, the porosity of your strands will determine the capability of the outer layer of the hair shaft to absorb the product. Also, it is a factor affecting how the product adheres to the hair.
Hair porosity is determined by your genes, other factors include change through chemicals, heat or the health of the hair.
Hair porosity is categorized by 3 types:
- High
- Medium
- Low
POROSITY TEST
Get a small strand of your hair.
Fill a glass with water.
Place the strand in the glass.
Note down whether the strand sinks to the bottom, stays in the middle or floats.
Results :
If the strand floats you have low porosity.
If it stays in the middle it is medium porosity.
If it sinks to the bottom your strand is high porosity.
